1999 - Cruel But Not Unusual

CRUEL BUT NOT UNUSUAL. In this article published in Trouble & Strife, No. 39, en Manchester, Claudia Hasanbegovic argues to understand domestic violence as political torture. She compares both forms of violence and testimonies of women survivors to both forms of violence, to support her hypothesis, concluding with a new definition of domestic violence as political torture. In 2001 Amnesty International, during its International Campaign Against Torture, stated that "domestic violence can be seen as political torture in terms of International Human Rights law".
